NANO-Cathedral

NANO-Cathedral is an EU-funded project to develope treatments with NANO-technology to improve the possibilities of protection and consolidation of natural stones.

The granular structure of the stones (visible in a microscopic photo with zoom-factor 200) is weakened after centuries of weathering and decay.

NANO-materials can build bridges (marked red in the electron-microscopy-photo) between the unfastened grains of the stone and replace the lost original binder.
